Dorothy May (Stoner) Rote, 92, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at her home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with her son and daughter by her side. Dorothy was born on May 29, 1925 in Harrisburg, PA to the late Sadie May (Naylor) and George H. “Harry” Stoner.
During WWII Dorothy (Dot) worked as a riveter at the Middletown Air Service Command in Middletown, PA. After marrying Jack (the late John J. Rote III) on July 4, 1946 she was a devoted wife and mother to Gwendolyn Marie, born February 18, 1948 and John Jackson IV, born September 10, 1949. Dot worked at RCA in the manufacturing department, the repair department at Schick Inc. in Lancaster, PA and as a payroll technician at Hamilton Watch. She enjoyed square dancing with Jack and her children, cooking, sewing and knitting. She and Jack were also avid bowlers, playing in local leagues for many years and had a great love for card playing, pinochle in particular, with friends and relatives.
Dot and Jack moved to Myrtle Beach, SC from East Petersburg, PA in 1991 after Jack retired. They purchased a beautiful condo on a South Carolina marsh about 3 blocks from the Atlantic Ocean. They enjoyed many years of playing golf together, making new friends and appreciating all the wonderful things Myrtle Beach had to offer during their retirement years. Dot and Jack were married for 55 years before his passing on October 30, 2001.
Dorothy continued her love of playing cards, knitting and cooking. She also enjoyed the beach, relaxing on her deck overlooking the marsh and the company of family and friends.
Survivors include her son, John J. Rote IV of Marysville, PA; daughter Gwen M. (Mrs. Theodore “Ted” S. Haas Jr. (late)) Haas of Longs, SC; 4 granddaughters, Robin L.
