James T. Grubbs, 75, passed away Thursday November 23, 2017 in Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, SC.

He was born February 4, 1942 in Winchester, VA. the son of Kinzel B. Grubbs and Annie Carson Grubbs.  He was a 1960 graduate of Handley High School.  During his childhood he played little league and pony league baseball for several winning teams. 

He worked for the Virginia Department of Highways as a lineman with the survey department that was instrumental in building Interstate 81 South from the West Virginia line to Shenandoah County, Route 66 from Interstate 81 to Front Royal, VA and Interstate 85 from Petersburg, VA to the North Carolina line.  After being stung by a hornet he transferred to the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control store where he retired as a manager in 1995.  In 2006 they moved to his retirement dream destination, Myrtle Beach, SC.

He is survived by his wife Judith H. Grubbs who he married in April 1966.  He is also survived by their son, Thomas Sean Grubbs, daughter, Carmen Grubbs Strachan, brother, George Robert “Bob” Grubbs, 3 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 2 nephews and 1 niece. 

He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Elks Club. He was a diehard Redskins fan, an avid golfer and loved the beach.  His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
