Charles Manderville Jenks IV (Buddy) of Radford, Virginia passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Conway Medical Center, SC, after a long illness.
Charlie was an accomplished chef, having trained under the European Master Chef Paul Bocuse in the early 1980s. His culinary Internship was spent at Mountain Lake, VA and he developed his career as a Chef and Food & Beverage Director within the Hilton Corporation on Jekyll Island GA, as well as in Atlanta, Memphis, and Greenville, SC. He later returned to Blacksburg, VA as a chef and caterer. He won many culinary awards and had 2 callbacks for the Hells Kitchen TV show.
Charlie lived a life of service to others as a Firefighter and Paramedic across the south. He always had a love of emergency medicine and, alongside his chef career, worked as a Firefighter and EMT on Jekyll Island, GA and Glynn City, GA for over 15 years. He also served Camden City Fire and Rescue in Kingsland/St. Mary’s, Georgia, touching many lives and again garnering many awards and commendations along the way.
Charlie is well known for his laughter, quick wit, intelligent conversation, love of classic rock, vintage fire trucks, writing, and like his Mother has been a lifelong avid reader. His son Shaun inherited many of his positive attributes. Charlie and his wife, Lisa Bridgwood Jenks of Bellport New York, were an inseparable pair who happily lived and loved in their affectionate marriage of 35 years. Lisa’s family was an integral part of his life, including her twin sister Dory Ricks and her children who loved him like a father.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Bridgwood Jenks of Myrtle Beach; his son Shaun Allen Jenks and wife Erica of Radford, VA; his Father, Charles Manderville Jenks III of Radford, VA; brother Wesley Nicholaus Jenks and wife Deborah Jenks of Hampstead, NC; a sister, Judy B. Jenks of Radford, VA; grandchildren Hailey and Hunter Jenks of Radford, VA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his beautiful Mother, Betty Hale Jenks and his brother David Robert Jenks, both of Radford, VA.
