Richard E. ZembaDecember 5, 1943 ~ November 26, 2017 (age 73)
Richard E. Zemba, 73, of Longs, South Carolina (formerly of Derry, PA) passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at home with his family, after a long battle with cancer.
The son of the late Pauline Wargo Zemba and Joseph Zemba Sr., he was born in Atlantic, PA on December 5, 1943.
A veteran of the U. S. Army and the Pennsylvania National Guard, Richard was co-owner of Derry Aluminum prior to moving to Myrtle Beach in 1986. In Myrtle Beach, he operated his own maintenance business until retiring.
Known to many of his friends as “Rez,” Richard loved being outdoors and enjoyed boating and fishing in the coastal waters of South Carolina. He was equally skilled in the kitchen when it came to cooking his catch to share with friends. Richard always had a bountiful garden, starting his own plants from seeds or cuttings every year. He was an avid golfer all of his adult life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Richard F. Dayok of Crabtree, PA.
Richard is survived by his companion and best friend of more than 25 years, Julie Sample, at home. Two sons: Richard E. Zemba Jr. and his wife, Jennifer; and Brian Jason Zemba and his wife, Jackie, all of Derry. Also surviving are a sister, Patricia Ann Dayok of Crabtree; and a brother, Joseph Zemba Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of Unity Township, PA; three grandchildren: Jacob, Danielle, and Lillian all of Derry; and a number of nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation; interment will be private.
